How a dynamic EQ works

A dynamic EQ is an equaliser whose bands only act when the signal crosses a threshold. You place a band at a specific frequency, set a threshold, and it cuts (or boosts) only when there's enough energy there. It is precise and surgical: you decide exactly where and how much. The catch is that you have to find every problem frequency and set up a band for each one.

How a resonance suppressor works

A resonance suppressor analyses the whole spectrum continuously and automatically identifies frequencies that ring out or jump above their neighbours — the definition of a resonance. It then ducks just those peaks, just when they occur, across dozens of micro-bands at once. You don't tell it where to look; it finds the resonances for you and smooths them dynamically.
